Dunkin’ Donuts is rejecting calls to add vegan donuts to their menu in order to avoid seeming health conscious. Dunkin’ Donuts, owned by Inspire Brands, is behind on it’s commitment to rely on cage-free eggs by 2025. Dunkin’ has insisted it would rather continue to source eggs from abused hens in battery cages than offer a vegan option. Chris Fuller, the Head of Communications for Inspire Brands, commented, “Serving our customers’ needs is our top priority. You don’t come to Dunkin’ to eat a heart healthy diet.” When pressed on the matter that foods can lack animal products but still contain unhealthy ingredients, he responded, “I couldn’t agree more. We can’t just make a vegan donut from spinach. The issue is branding – just like animal welfare, healthy options, just aren’t who we are as a company.”
