Norfolk, Virginia – Dozens of activists and volunteers for PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, lined the street near City Hall on Saturday to protest legislation geared toward improving the welfare of farm animals. Emergency and Disaster Preparedness for Farm Animals Act (H.R. 243) is pending act requiring farm operators to develop disaster preparedness plans aimed at protecting the safety and welfare of farm animals during extreme weather.
Senior Campaigner for PETA, Amanda Brody, told PBFN, “This is disgusting legislation. We will only support legislation that ends all animal agriculture immediately. Have you no empathy?” PETA has never shied away from controversy and refuses to compromise or waiver on animal rights. Under the slogan, “Animals are not ours” PETA has been a leading voice in the animal rights movement since 1980.
When asked why PETA did not support action to protect the safety and welfare of farm animals, Brody replied, “We will not settle for reducing pain. We will not settle for improving welfare. PETA will only support legislation that supports the abolition of animal agriculture. Vegan or bust.”
